The statistic on weight loss maintenance is not good. Gretchen Voss of ABC News reports that according to some estimates, more than 80 percent of people who have lost weight regain all of it, or more, after two years.

Why do such a small percentage of people succeed in keeping the weight off?

Sadly, scientists don’t know. Dr. Levitsky, an esteemed professor from Cornell University says, “We know lots and lots about why people are getting fat. We can tell them all about their night eating and their insulin levels and the horrible impact of the obesogenic food environment. But we don’t know the first thing about what to do about it. There isn’t a single intervention that has been shown to work long-term.”
